John Saunders
Charleston, SC
BEFORE: Minister,Psychology Professor
AFTER:Coffee House & African Art Gallery owner
| John Saunders’ parents were both born and bred in Charleston, SC where John currently resides. John, however, was born in Africa and lived in several countries in Africa as the child of visiting missionaries. John’s days in missionary oriented boarding schools instilled in him directions that were usually if nothing else. He learned lessons regarding “bucking the trend” and sticking with your friends. He played cricket and caroused with the poor black kids but the richer white kids were his classmates. | |
|
| He can rattle off Swahili one second and a rich, English accent the next and then effortlessly switch to his Southern “Baba” drawl if the need calls for it. Together with is friend and business partner, Fox, he runs two charming and way-cool coffee shops; one in downtown Charleston the other in Mount Pleasant a stones-throw from the first. Both establishments feature African artifacts and décor and the energy from the Dark Continent is in abundance. |
